It’s Unanimous: St. Margaret’s is No. 1 in Girls’ Lacrosse Coaches Poll

The St. Margaret’s girls lacrosse team did something last week that no other OC girls lacrosse team has done since 2015 – they defeated Mater Dei.  That apparently got the attention of the local coaches who unanimously voted for the Tartans as the No. 1 team in the County.

Foothill maintains the no. 2 spot.  The Knights bounced back nicely from a March 13 loss to San Clemente, and have since won three in a row by a combined score of 52-20.

Despite the loss to St. Margaret’s and a 5-5 record, the coaches still hold Mater Dei in high regard and put the Monarchs at no. 3.  Don’t be deceived by the record.  The Monarchs are playing an extremely challenging schedule – the five teams they have lost to have only four losses between them.

Santa Margarita checks in at no. 4 with a 7-1 record.  The only blemish on their record thus far is to Palos Verdes.  The Eagles will have plenty of opportunity to move up in the rankings over the next two weeks – they play St. Margaret’s, Foothill, and Mater Dei between now and April 11.

Another team with a deceiving record is no. 5 Trabuco Hills.  The Mustangs are 4-4 but three of those losses were to St. Margaret’s, Foothill, and Santa Margarita.
