The JSerra Lions clinched at least a share of the Trinity League title Wednesday night with a 9-2 win over Mater Dei at their home field. The Lions are now 6-0 in Trinity League play. The Lions scored first with a goal by Yuta Murata on a pass from Brenden Lynch at the 9:43 mark in the first quarter. Hunter Kimpler and Brenden Lynch scored two more unassisted goals to close the first quarter at 3-0. In the second quarter, goals were added by James Yanes, Nathan Reutiman, and two by Mitch Kingsley, putting the Lions up 7-0 at half. In the 3rd quarter, Cole Schleppy scored on an assist from James Yanes, and in the 4th Logan Olmsted on an assist from Yuta Murata, giving JSerra a 9-0 lead. Mater Dei scored with 2:10 left in the game on a goal from Nick Southron. Southron scored an additional unassisted goal with 1:07 left in the game to make the final score 9-2.The Lions defense (Troy Janikowski, Chaz Dotson, Nick Georgagi, Teddy Finley and Tucker Guyot) played outstanding, holding Mater Dei scoreless until the final two minutes of the game. JSerra’s goal keeper Senior Ryan Suttled had 4 saves over 3 quarters giving up 0 goals.
JSerra was dominant at the faceoff position, winning 14 of 15 faceoffs with Junior Lorin Ortega winning 5 of 5 and Freshman Ryan Harnisch winning 9 of 10.
