Senior captain Nico Houser’s (Wagner) five goals led Santa Margarita Catholic High School past visiting Bishop’s School 10-8 on Saturday. Deuces were wild in this game as the Eagles jumped out to a 4-2 lead and then each team scored two goals per quarter for the remainder of the game to get to the final score of 10-8.
Freshman Quintin Buchman scored two, and Logan Dochterman, Joseph Fice, and Jack Fisher all scored one apiece for the Eagles. Zach Taylor handed out two assists. Fice and Andrew Kofoed (Notre Dame de Namur) each had one assist. Lucas Mullarkey, another senior captain, was his usual efficient self at defensive midfield, causing two turnovers and picking up four ground balls. Junior captain Eric Rubak (Bellarmine) also had two CTOs and four gb’s while CJ Deal’s two CTOs and David Fice’s four gb’s helped to hold a talented Bishop’s offense to single digits. Max Vought had eight saves.
The Knights were led by junior Cal Costa (Ohio State) who found the back of the net once every quarter and added an assist for five points on the day. The freshmen trio of Isiah Dawson, Garth Erdossy, and Jack Raser and junior Logan Ziegler each scored once for the youthful Knights. Senior Theo Vachon-Fischer rejected 10 Eagles’ shots.
Next up: Santa Margarita (5-1) hosts El Toro (3-2) on Wednesday and Palos Verdes (4-1) on Friday. Bishop’s (0-2) hosts Rancho Bernardo (3-0) on Tuesday and Colorado Academy (2-1) on Saturday.
