High-Flying Knights Down Tritons

Foothill’s Denver-bound senior attackman Nate Marano got things going early and often for the Knights by scoring in the opening seconds to kick off a six-goal night, helping Foothill to a 19-7 win over youthful San Clemente Thursday evening.

Foothill owned a 6-0 lead at the end of the first quarter before San Clemente responded in the second, with Matt Keany scoring from a Branden Wilson assist. Wilson went on to score twice before the half, bringing the Tritons closer, at 8-3.

The Tritons momentum continued into the third stanza as sophomores Nick Lemus and Matt Keany scored, closing the gap to 8-5. But Foothill’s experience took over, leveraging an aggressive defense to dominate time of possession and cruise to the 19-7 final.

For the Knights, Nate Marano notched a “sock” trick, with six goals. Nathan Skeen added a hat trick with three scores. Austin Babb pitched in with two. Ellis Geis, Matt Marano, Jake Haigh, Steven Oberly, Matt Harris, Kevin Kodzis, Cole Falbo and Jared Copeland each scored once.

San Clemente was led by Keany with four goals, Wilson had two and Lemus one. Lemus and Wilson added two assists apiece. Eric Zoe also had an assist for the Tritons.
