The top of the US Lacrosse/MaxLaxLA coaches poll remains unchanged entering the final week of the season, but keep an eye on Harvard Westlake, which is making a late run and gaining momentum.
The Wolverines, ranked No. 6 this week, had been ranked No. 8 back on April 7 but have won five of their last six, with the only loss coming to Orange County power St. Margaret’s Episcopal. Moreover, Harvard Westlake is averaging nearly 18 goals per game in that stretch (including the 17-5 loss to St. Margaret’s). With games this week against O.C. No. 2 Corona del Mar and L.A. No. 1 Loyola, another move up is possible.
Loyola (13-2) received 12 of 14 first-place votes to hold onto the top spot, with Palos Verdes (10-5) remaining No. 2. The teams face each other today at Palos Verdes (4 p.m.), with the winner in good position to receive the No. 1 seed in the upcoming US Lacrosse Southern Section L.A. playoffs.
Unbeaten Westlake (13-0) received two first-place votes and moved back into the No. 3 position, bumping Peninsula (14-1) back to No. 4. Thousand Oaks (11-3) and Harvard Westlake (10-5) both move up a spot, with Crespi (8-6), which lost to the Wolverines on Saturday, dropping from No. 5 to No. 7.
