orange county

MaxLaxOC.com spent some time with Lonny Blank, the US Lacrosse Orange County Men’s Area Chair, to discuss the state of OC lacrosse and get a sneak peek into what US Lacrosse has in mind for the upcoming high school season. We learned that US Lacrosse has awarded the growth of lacrosse in the area with an additional All American slot, US Lacrosse is modifying the playoff seeding process, US Lacrosse is looking for volunteers to help manage the explosive growth in the area, and more. Following are the highlights:

Orange County Rewarded with Additional All American Slot

US Lacrosse has rewarded the Orange County lacrosse community for its growth with an additional all-american award. We now have 7 All-Americans and 3 All- Academics.

Independent Selection Committee for Playoff Seedings
The Board of the US Lacrosse Orange County Chapter has decided to assemble a committee of 3 to 7 independent lacrosse knowledgeable people to select at-large playoff teams (league champions receive an automatic berth) and seed the 16 teams that will participate in the OC playoffs. The selection committee will be aided by a coaches poll (see below for more info), and a mathematical formula that will be announced at the begining of the season. The committee members will be selected with input from coaches and athletic directors, and subject to the following requirements:

  1. Must be independent of any Orange County high school program. Parents of current rostered players and former OC high school plyers are not eligible
  2. Must be willing to meet on 5/3/14 at 6PM in Orange County
  3. Must demonstrate an understanding of boys lacrosse (player, coach and/or ref immediately satisfies this requirement)
  4. Must be willing to closely follow OC Boys lacrosse to form opinions on teams

Nominations for the selection committee can be made at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YWSCCYQ.

Weekly Top 10 Coaches Poll

MaxLaxOC.com will work with US Lacrosse to coordinate and report on weekly Top 10 Coaches Poll. The plan at this time is to update the results on Sunday evenings.

Pre-Season All County Nominations

For the first time, US Lacrosse will assemble, based on nominations from coaches, a preseason All-County list to help track the players that are expected to be worthy of All-County honors at the end of the season. All-County nominations and selections will NOT be limited to this list, the list will help coaches track the accomplishments of nominees that they do not get to see play on regular basis so that they can be better informed at voting time.
