Just 3-1/2 years after picking up lacrosse, Great Oak senior defenseman/LSM Jake Torres has committed to study and play NCAA Division II lacrosse at the University of Tampa.

Torres told his defensive trainer Devin Arkison of LockdownD.com that he chose Tampa because of the academic fit, the coaching staff and the chance to compete and win at a top program.

“Jake made a choice to improve his game dramatically in the last 12 months” Arkison reflected by email. “His work ethic is a major strength, he gets after it, and is always looking to learn more, he’ll be an excellent player at the next level.”

The Tampa Spartans finished 2018 with a 15-5 record and reached the NCAA tournament for the fifth time.

In addition to Arkison, Torres thanked thank his high school teammates and coaches, and Coach Zack Burke of 3D San Diego for helping him with his quick ascent in the sport.

“Jake plays with great intensity, his passion for the game is evident, I think he’s made a wise choice”,  Burke said by email.
