#10 Great Oak ended up on better side of a 9-7 game against visiting #15 El Toro on Saturday. High scorers for Great Oak were seniors Weston Gotuzzo with 3 goals and 1 assist and Hunter Campbell with 3 goals. A solid team defensive effort kept the El Toro offense one dimensional and frustrated Charger efforts to generate offense from X. Sophomore Tyler Palmer was a defensive standout for the Wolfpack. A tight game throughout, it was not decided until Great Oak finished the game with a buzzer beater score to win 9-7.
Great Oak coach Karl Rohlin knew that he came away with a win against a very good team, saying, “Hats off to El Toro for playing a solid game from start to finish and keeping us on our toes for the entire game. They earned our respect.”
Great Oak (2-0) takes a little bit of breather before hosting Esperanza on Friday and travelling to San Clemente in Top 10 showdown on Saturday. The 2-1 Chargers travel to Woodbridge on Tuesday and Mater Dei on Friday.
