Climbs Seven Spots in Girls Coaches Poll

The girls won three of four games last week, improving their overall record to 6-3 and earning enough attention to climb seven spots to No. 11 in the Week 3 MaxLaxLA/US Lacrosse coaches poll.

The Nitros won 7-6 at Agoura and beat The Harvey School of New York 13-9 before losing to No. 1 Redondo Union 16-6 and wrapping up the week with a 16-6 win over Peninsula.

Redondo (5-1), Oak Park (4-1) and Chaminade (5-1) held steady in the first three spots in the poll, with Redondo again a unanimous No. 1 pick on the 12 ballots cast.

Agoura, which lost star Lauren Harrison to a knee injury, lost to both Glendale and Redondo and fell from No. 4 to No. 7.

Also rising in the poll this week was Palisades (3-0), which went from No. 15 to No. 12, and La Reina and Newbury Park, which both entered the Top 20 after being unranked a week ago. La Reina (2-3) won at Thousand Oaks but lost at Newbury Park. Newbury (3-1) beat both West Ranch and La Reina.

    • Actually, the coaches agreed before the season that tournament results wouldn’t be included in overall records. Some coaches use the tournament games to give their reserve players more experience, not necessarily playing to win.

Coaches are welcome to vote however they wish in the poll, though. With continued success, any team can post results that will move it up in the voting.

  2. Thanks for the follow up Jim. Do you know when the Coaches polls come out each week? Are they posted on MaxLax first?

  3. Chris – I stand partially corrected. I am told the Rose Bowl tournament plays shorter, 20 minute halves with no timeouts, so those games are NOT counted in overall records.

The Birmingham Lax Bash, though, plays full 25-minute halves with timeouts – regulation games – and thus DO count in overall records and should be considered by coaches voting in the coaches poll.
