What to Know About Santa Margarita
The Eagles (11-6) enter the playoffs as one of the hottest teams in the County. The Eagles finished the season by winning 9 of their last 10 games. Their victims in that span have included No. 4 St. Margaret’s, No. 8 Tesoro, No. 11 Los Alamitos, No. 12 Beckman, and No. 15 Capistrano Valley. The Eagles may be poised to go deep this year.
Santa Margarita has utilized their many scoring options to average 16 goals per game since their hot streak began. Erin DiBernardo and Katelyn Murphy are the big guns but Aidan Pike, Bella Martinez, Sidney Ruiz, and Maddie Bush are all 20-plus goal scorers. Kendal Orrantia and goalie Victoria Hoffman lead a stingy defense.
What to Know About San Juan Hills
The Stallions (10-7) may be this year’s dark horse. They proved they can play with the top teams when they defeated Santa Margarita back in March. They also have wins against No. 8 Tesoro and No. 15 Aliso Niguel.
“It’s been a good season for the Lady Stallions. We set two goals this year – Be competitive in the South Coast League, which we were finishing in 2nd place with a 5-3 record and to make the playoffs… here we are,” head coach Michael Welter said by email . “The next chapter has yet to be written with some talented athletes representing the school. Bridget Cain, Taylor Austin, Hannah Miller, Olivia Fu, Mandy Muhr, Maddie Oblea and Claire Welter just to name a few have really helped the team be competitive.”
