GLax Preview: No. 4 St. Margaret’s vs. No. 13 Aliso Niguel

No. 4 St. Margaret’s will host No. 13 Aliso Niguel in Round 1 of the playoffs today at 4:30 pm.

What to Know About St. Margaret’s

The Tartans (11-5) come into the playoffs looking to rebuild momentum that was lost with late season losses to No. 8 Santa Margarita and No. 2 Foothill.

“The 2017 Tartans are poised for play-off competition, coach Holly Reilly said by email.  “Coming off two disappointing late end-of-season losses, the Lady Tartans’ fire is fueled with unfinished business.  In the first round, the Tartans will host Aliso Niguel for a re-match.  Led by captains Cameron Manor and Cailin Young, St. Margaret’s is focusing one game at a time.  Look for speed in the midfield, suffocating communication on defense, and selflessness on attack.  Go Tartans!”

Captains Manor and Young will lead a deep pool of youthful talent that includes freshman Campbell Case, sophomores Niki Miles and Maddie Barkrate, and junior Cailin Young.

What to Know About Aliso Niguel

After turning around a 2016 2-14 campaign Aliso Niguel (9-9) may be the most improved team in this year’s bracket.  However, like the Tartans, the Wolverines struggled late in the season.  Aliso Niguel will be trying to stop a five-game losing streak this afternoon.  To pull off the upset, Aliso will look for a way to slow down the Tartans’ offense that put up 23 points against the Wolverines in March.  The leadership of captains , , , and  helped bring Aliso this far and no doubt the Wolverines will call upon their Big Four again today.
