Foothill High girls lacrosse junior Ashley Stokes has committed to study and play NCAA Division 1 lacrosse at the University of Boulder Colorado. The announcement was made last week.
“Colorado is a special place and as soon as I stepped onto campus, I had the feeling that this was it,” Stokes said via direct message on Instagram.
Stokes helped lead Foothill to the County semi-finals last season with 103 points. She led the Knights in assists with 33 and her 70 goals was second best. Those numbers were good enough to earn her All-American and First Team All-County honors.
“Colorado has everything I was looking for in a school and a lacrosse program,” Stokes said. “I would like to thank my family for their unconditional support and love.”
The Buffs finished 2018 with a 14-6 overall record and 9-1 in Pac-12 regular season play. They fell to Stanford in the Pac-12 championship and reached the second round of the NCAA tournament.
“I have met some of the other 2020 commits. I couldn’t be happier and am excited to start this next chapter of my life with them,” Stokes said. “Finally, I’d like to thank the coaching staff at Boulder for giving me this opportunity. Skooo Buffs!”
In addition to thanking her parents, Stokes also thanks former Foothill coach Kate Hick, Tesoro girls lacrosse coach Lauren Ciccomascolo, current Foothill coach Cristina Johnson and Michele Ruth for believing in her and helping her be able to play at the next level.
