Ranked number 4 in the West by Nike/Lacrosse Magazine, Cherry Creek (11 Time Colorado State Champions) descended on Foothill’s home turf on Tuesday afternoon to face an undefeated Foothill team. Starting off the scoring was Julia Taylor (Oregon), putting Foothill up by 1 in the first 2 1/2 mins of the game. The score then see-sawed back and forth and both teams played tight defense and disciplined offense. At the half, Foothill was up 5-4. After taking a 6-4 lead early in the second half, Cherry Creek came storming back taking a commanding 10-7 lead with 11 mins left in the game. Foothill, on the backs of Brie Ratkevich and Meridian Lee, who scored four unanswered goals to win the game. Ratkevich’s free position goal with 1:23 remaining was the game winner. Foothill’s strong defense held Cherry Creek scoreless for the last 11 minutes of the game.
Top scorers were Ratkevich with 5 goals (all in the 2nd half), Taylor (3g), and Meridian Lee (2g, 1a). Hannah Upshaw (USC) had a strong outing in goal with 9 saves against a very fast attack.
