Foothill avenged last year’s first-ever loss to San Clemente by trouncing the Tritons Saturday, 14-4, at St. Margaret’s.
The tenor of the game was set early when Foothill goalie Sean Pihl ran the length of the field and scored on a rocket shot from inside the restraining line for an early 1-0 lead. San Clemente long pole Syd Reynolds notched the game at 1-1 to end the first quarter, but from then on it was all Foothill. The Knights played a tight brand of lacrosse, while San Clemente committed 24 errors. Foothill faceoff star Austin Babb won the faceoff battle, taking 12 of 22 draws.
The Knights were led by junior attackman Nick Matzek who had 3 goals and 2 assists, while senior attackman Cameron Stone (4 goals) and junior Warren Case (1 goal, 3 assists) also had big games. Also scoring for Foothill were Colin Cummins (2 goals), Mason Roseneau (1 goal) and Bailey Bezich (1 goal).
San Clemente also got goals from Collin Zines (2 goals) and Jordan Riggs (1 goal, 1 assist). Triton goalie Thomas Ahola had 15 saves.
