The Foothill boys lacrosse team (MaxLax OC #2) visited San Clemente Tuesday night, and the Tritons (OC #5) showed up ready for the challenge.
The Knights jumped out to a lighting-quick 2-0 lead in the first 90 seconds, but SC refused to let the game turn into a rout. The Tritons hung tough, pulling to within one at the half, 4 – 3.
The game remained tight through the third period, with the Knights unable to extend their lead beyond three goals.
As the game wound down, the Foothill offense got on track, notching four goals in the last five minutes. The final score doesn’t indicate how hard-fought a battle this really was: Foothill 11, San Clemente 5.
Nathan Skeen provided much of the Foothill firepower, with 4 goals. Steven Oberly scored three times for the Knights. George Dalis and Tony Del Crognale picked up 3 ground balls each.
The Tritons were led by Austin Boyer (Cleveland State) in goal, with 11 saves. Matt Keany helped to keep SC in the game with 3 goals. David Howren and Branden Wilson each scored. Caleb Bozarth led an aggressive SC defense, picking up 4 ground balls. Lance Buckley and Nick Lemus (Air Force) picked up 3 gb’s each.
Foothill visits the Trabuco Hills Mustangs this Saturday. San Clemente will travel to Capo Valley on Thursday, then meets up with the always-competitive Palos Verdes Sea Kings on Saturday in PV.
