Following on the heals of last week’s win at the Rose Bowl Jamboree, the Foothill girls lacrosse varsity team won the top bracket at the Surf, Sun & Stix Lacrosse Tournament at Westview High School in San Diego. Foothill’s first game of the day was against Mater Dei.  Down 3-2 at the half, Foothill scored 6 goals to Mater Dei’s 1 in the second half to secure an 8-4 victory.

The next 2 games were against La Jolla High School and Mt. Carmel, both impressive wins by the Foothill squad. The final game of the day was against Foothill’s long time rival Beckman. Tied at 3 for the first half, Foothill’s draw control and stellar defense was too much for Beckman as Foothill scored 5 unanswered goals for the 8-3 win. Highlights for the day included Foothill’s continued dominance on the offensive end with a 72 to 29 shots on goal advantage. Key players included Meridian Lee (9 goals, 1 assist and 9 ground balls), Julia Taylor (Oregon) (7 goals, 4 assists and 12 ground balls), Brie Ratkevich (7 goals, 1 assist and 12 ground balls), Sophie Forester (5 goals and 7 assists) and Hannah Upshaw (USC) with 15 saves on the day including 6 saves on 10 shots in the Mater Dei game.

Next up: A rematch with Beckman on March 26.
