Troy Hofer found the top corner at 2:44 of the second overtime to end an 18-minute scoring drought and hand Foothill a 5-4 double overtime win over Santa Margarita at Northrup Stadium on Tuesday night.
The last goal by either team prior to Hofer’s winner came when Ryan Yue (2g) took a pass from Jack Allender and found the back of the net to time the game at 4-4 as time ran out in the third quarter.
The loss was the second consecutive heartbreaker for the Eagles (1-5) who lost to Harvard-Westlake 13-12 on Friday and have struggled to find their footing in the early season. Foothill, which improved to 4-2, held its opponent to single digits for the fifth time in six outings.
Roman Pistone, Riley Ahearn and Destry Burton (2g) rounded out the Foothill scoring. Connor Kentros and Kai Solomon (on a nice coast-to-coast cruise with the pole) scored for Santa Margarita.
Next up: Foothill hosts San Clemente on Saturday. Santa Margarita hosts Corona del Mar on Saturday.
