Nathan Skeen and Kevin Kodzis (Holy Cross) are off to fast starts at attack, with 7 goals each in the first two games for nationally ranked Foothill High School.
Led by the juniors Skeen, with 4 goals, and Kodzis (who also plays midfield), with 3 goals and 2 assists, the Knights beat Los Alamitos 15-5 Wednesday at Foothill.
Attack Drew Boyd added 2 goals and a career-high 3 assists and senior All-American Nate Marano (Denver) had 2 goals and 2 assists.
Defense was led by Spencer Davis, who forced 2 turnovers and had 4 ground balls. Long poles Danny Carter and Jared Copeland had strong outings for a second straight game, with Carter forcing 3 turnovers and Copeland scooping up 3 ground balls. Junior Kosta Dalis, who could emerge as a key long pole over a long season, forced 2 turnovers.
Los Alamitos had its best chance in the opening seconds as Foothill followed its bad habit of giving up a score before the crowd gets settled. Not much got by Foothill goalie Ryan Blank (St. John’s), with 5 saves in three quarters as the Knights built up an 11-3 lead.
The game was slowed by 24 penalties.
Foothill, 2-0, hosts rival St. Margaret’s at 2 p.m. Saturday at Foothill High.
Los Al hosts Oak Park in the third round of the Knights Challenge.
