Foothill Tops De La Salle

All-American Attack Nate Marano (Denver) had a season-high 5 goals, including his team’s first 4 scores, as nationally ranked Foothill High outscored De La Salle, 10-6, Friday at Tustin High School.

However, it was a pinpoint pass from Marano to a breaking freshman Ellis Geis with 14 seconds left in the half that secured the Knights’ fourth straight win of the season. Geis’ goal put Foothill up, 5-2, and only the phenomenal play of De La Salle’s goalie, Johnny Perlite, with 18 saves, kept this game interesting.
Foothill led, 10-3, before three late goals were scored against the Knights’ reserves.
Attack-middie Kevin Kodzis (Holy Cross) took up the slack for an ill Nathan Skeen, the high-scoring attack who only played a few minutes. Kodzis had 2 goals; a goal and an assist came during a busy fourth quarter.
Attack Drew Boyd and Middie Cole Fergus each had a goal and defenseman Matt Marano continued his full-field play, with 2 assists and 3 caused turnovers. Another standout on defense, Danny Carter, forced 5 turnovers. Face-off specialist Austin Babb (Ottawa) had 6 ground balls and Jared Copeland added 4.
De La Salle, 3-1, got 3 goals from Kyle Rodney and a goal apiece from Brook Rideau, Connor Maloney and Connor Lencioni.
