Dunn Joins Servite Staff

The Servite lacrosse program has announced the addition of Coach to its staff. brings a wealth of knowledge to the Friars, who are still in their quest for their first league title.

Coach Dunn has been a staple in the Orange County Lacrosse community for more than a decade. The Huntington Beach lacrosse community thrived under Dunn with a blossoming youth program. Dunn played an integral roll in the development of many of the area’s top players during their foundational years, sending players to a number of area schools as well as his own program, the Huntington Beach Oilers.

After heading the Oilers from 2009-2015 and guiding them to their first Sunset League Championship in program history, Dunn left Huntington Beach and took on the head position at Tesoro HS. In the 2018 season, Dunn lead Tesoro to a 19-1 record including a perfect 17-0 regular season (the only in CA), and received the OC Registers Coach of the year.

Head Coach Tom O’Leary commented: “When I heard that Brian had stepped down from Tesoro, I knew I had to act fast. I knew he stepped away for a better work/life balance with his full time job. But after knowing Brian for almost ten years, I knew that passion to coach and mentor was still fresh. Although Brian has a more limited role as he looks to take over our offensive side of the field, he will have a huge impact on the young men here at Servite. We were able to provide him with an opportunity of flexibility”.

Dunn and O’Leary are no strangers to coaching with each other. They have coached together with 3d Orange County and Team12. The two coaches have also played for Newport Beach Men’s club for almost seven years together.

Dunn joins O’Leary and former San Clemente/ JSerra head coach, for the 2019 campaign. Servite Alums ’13 and ’12 round out the Friars staff.

Dunn wrote, “I couldn’t be more excited to continue to give back to a lacrosse community that has provided me with so much. While wins and losses are great, for me it’s always been about what I can do to better the lives of others and the relationships forged along the way. I simply want to see OC lacrosse continue to grow and provide whatever I can to help it do so. Coach O’Leary has been a close friend and someone who I’ve admired as a coach because he runs his program the right way. His integrity to put OC lacrosse and specifically the Friars ahead of his own needs is something we need more of in the area.”

Servite will look to continue its path of progress in the 2019 season, and is eager for all the challenges ahead.
