Douglas Leads Tesoro over Beckman (Exclusive MaxLaxOC.com Video)

523488_116520551813026_1395172471_nJake Douglas scored five goals, several of the highlight variety (check out the video!), to lead the Tesoro High School Titans over the Beckman High School Patriots 13-6. It marked the ninth straight victory for the Titans who have not lost since opening day.

Tesoro dominated the game from the outset and stormed out to a 6-1 first quarter lead. Liam Finn got the Titans rolling early, when he collected a pass from Chase Warner and found the far top corner with a left handed rip to make it 1-0. Then Douglas scored his first goal of the night after Matt Adam turned some good defense into offense. Adam picked up a ground ball on a failed Beckman clear and dished to Douglas who walked in on the Beckman cage and finished effortlessly. Chase Warner kept the Tesoro train rolling with a left handed rip to make it 3-0. Beckman called a timeout to in an attempt to slowdown the Tesoro momentum but it was to no avail. Douglas picked picked up a groundball on the ensuing faceoff and cut through the Beckman defense to make it 4-0 Tesoro with five minutes still remaining the opening quarter. Jake Waltz put the Patriots on the scoreboard with a man up goal but the momentum shift did not last long. AJ Chioni (unassisted) and Sage Devault (assist Douglas) scored before the the quarter ended to make it 6-1 after the first quarter. Douglas goal was initiated when defenseman Connor Toohey intercepted a Beckman pass.

The second quarter was all about Beckman’s Wesley Filipek. The big attackman scored four unassisted goals in a seven minute span to send the Patriots into halftime down only 8-5. Blake Warner scored the only Tesoro goal of the second quarter.

Douglas and company came storming out of half time and resumed their domination. AJ Chiono (assist Douglas), Douglas, and Chase Warner (assist from little bro’ Blake) all scored in the third quarter to make it 11-6 going into the final quarter. Mike Mazda scored the only Patriot goal of the quarter. Chase Warner scored his third goal of the night and Douglas his sixth in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring at 13-6 in favor of Tesoro.

The Titans are now 9-1 and get a bit of break before they host South Coast League rivals San Clemente on April 16. Beckman falls to 6-4. The Patriots travel to Sage Hill on Monday.
