SoCal Area lacrosse players were balling from Irvine to Amherst this weekend. Locally it was the Tinseltown Throwdown and back east it was one of the biggies of the summer at NLF tourney.

Locally Rhett Famer went off Saturday for Navigators at the Throwdown . Six goals and 10 assistants in 3 games. The 2020 lefty had it going and finished the tourney with 21 points. Stood out. While Farmer was tearing it up on this coast, his Newport Harbor teammate Aidan Goltz was getting it done for West Coast Starz on the East Coast. Goltz scored multiple goals at NLF. This combo is gonna be the real deal for coach Mark Todd and the Sailors in 2020.

Yorba Linda Mustangs  Nolan Henry and Trevor Krauss were outstanding at the Throwdown. Sunday Krauss dominated his match ups, 4 CTO’s in the first half on 4 possessions vs HotSauce of AZ. Henry wasn’t to be out one, he had multiple turn overs on the weekend and pushed transition, couple hockey assists. Trent walked played very well at LSM as well. Mustangs only gave up six goals on Sunday. Legit. Looks like Yorba Linda will dee up again in 2020. Tanner Fitch was also very good at midfield. He has an extra gear this summer, and showed off a nasty swim move on Saturday for a goal. He’s fun to watch.

Back at NLF 2020 uncommitted Kai Kelly (IMG )shined as the leading scorer for Legends. He had three goals in last game. Wouldn’t be surprised if he commits  shortly, he’s been hot for couple weeks.

Logan Dobroeski was the truth for True Lax HS division at Tinsletown. Stood on his head w 17 saves and scored game winner to win tourney in brave heart. Fan were buzzing for good reason. Best game of weekend.

The long poles were scoring plenty for the Servite-centric Angels City club this weekend.  Mark Ellersick had five goals and three assists, Brendan Koerin had three goals and two assists, Bryton Hickhok had three  goals and Grant Walden added a goal. As we wrote on Maxlax in 2017 the era of slow play is over, long poles gonna push transition. Note UVA won it all in NCAA playing fast.Coach Tom O’Leary’s Friars will be tough in 2020. They have one of the best coaching staffs in OC with Brian Dunn and Michael Hutnick. Don’t sleep on the Friars in 2020, they come to play every game.

Back to NLF at Amerherst 2020 LSM Cole Garvey was a ground ball machine for Legends. The Bryant commit showed why he’s one of the best poles in SoCal. Bryant’s Coach Pressler is doing well recruiting in OC, he’s also got 2019 Kevin Groeninger from St. Margaret’s coming in. Who knows he may scoop another 2020 from SoCal before summer is out…don’t be surprised!

Black Horse U15 dominated the Throwdown. They just flattened teams. Well coached with plenty of talent, unselfish, they just played very good lacrosse all weekend.

Los Alamitos Cade Poe FOGO dominated for SC Lax at the Throwdown. The Los Al 2020 was very good all weekend for Coach Finn. Smoked um all weekend. Not committed yet.

The renaissance man of week for OC lax has got to be Mathew Mancini. The precocious 2023 defender had a big week. This Sunday he had some excellent games for Mustang Club, multiple ground balls and CTO’s and last Sunday he placed 2nd in a Cello competition. One can only guess what he’ll do to become a triple threat? Lacrosse, Cello…Ventriloquist??? Stay tuned…..
