Summer Spy: Devo’s Recruiting Headlines

Summer recruiting and committed events are in full gear. From Baltimore to Boston they’re balling all over the east coast. I’m getting lots of inquiries on some uncommitteds from coaches and plenty of intel on who’s keeping their spots secure.

Torrey Pines goalie Bobby Gavin (Towson) was lights out for West Coast Starz vs MadLax out of DC. We’re talking Landon School and Georgetown prep shooters here, top competition. The rising senior had 10 saves vs zero goals allowed in that contest, 100%, and was MVP of the game. He just keeps getting better. Tough kid.

Tyler Wrightson of Santa Margarita Catholic made the uncommitted game at Inside Lacrosse tourney so he’ll be on some radars. He’s quick.

Carson Kuhl out of Westlake High School has gotten some attention. Some inquires from Ivy’s and ECAC schools recently. A 2020 attack, he’s not committed. Hearing Princeton and Harvard most likely. Kid can fly! Speed game, and he’s got plenty of that.

Miles Botkiss is another uncommitted 2020 getting looks. The Torrey Pines middie has been rumored to be following big bro to Harvard. Don’t be surprised in UNC comes in, as well as Colgate possibly. Nice to have options. Baller. Tar Heel? Magic 8 ball says: signs point to yes.

Ryan Henry 2020 FOGO (Yorba Linda/UMass) has been on a roll. Went beast mode at local event, had lots of coaches talking, and just went 70% plus at Committed tourney back east. UMass may have gotten a steal. Whoever sent him to coach Cannella must be one sharp cookie!

Loyola’s Owen Gaffney may go very early. Sept 1 first time coaches can contact and his phone should blow up. I’m hearing Princeton and Harvard are good possibilities for the 2021 midfielder. Don’t count out an ACC getting in there. He’s on everyone’s radar. Ouija board came up with Tigers.

Makai Todd 2022 of St Margret’s made the all star game at Showtime. He’s quick and got plenty of varsity run last year, one to watch.

Antonio Shepard 2019 close D ( MD/Whittier) has played mostly local and hit the gym hard, looked impressive last week. Coach Mark’s Poets program is about to get very good very quickly, Can the youngster get run as Frosh? Psychic friends network says its hazy, but possible.

Kai Kelly out of San Diego is a 2020 at IMG. He was impressive at Good to Great event. Made the all star game and had three of the five first half goals and added a fourth goal in second half. Turned some heads, lots of chatter on college programs being impressed. He can play attack or middie and rides like a maniac.

Zach Harden 2023 will attend Foothill high next year. Can play close dee or LSM. Back east was MVP of Crabs camp, and made final game at UA tryouts in SD. Intense would be one word to describe his play. One to watch.

Another 2023, Jake Tom can also play close dee or LSM. He impressed for Legends back east, lefty pole heads to Loyola High in the fall. Versatile player for sure.

Devin Arkison was a former 3X All-American at Hobart. He provides personal defensive training and recruiting consulting for Lockdown D.
