Denver Scrimmage Draws Packed House vs. Hopkins

A sellout crowd of 2,571 packed Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on Saturday to see defending national champion Denver scrimmage the John’s Hopkins Blue Jays.

Denver took a 8-0 lead and went on to win the contest 14-10 behind four goals and an assist from freshman attack of Foothill HS in Tustin, Calif.

“I’m really excited about the fan support that turned up for an exhibition out here today,” head coach Bill Tierney said. “One part of the old school coach in me wants to say, ‘Oh this is silly, this is a scrimmage, why are you here,’, and another part of me says, ‘It’s 60 degrees; we might not have a nicer day here all spring; if they want to be here, and they want to follow our guys, good for them.’ It was great to see the fans so into the game, again, especially for an exhibition. I thought that was really cool.”

Denver officially opens its season Feb. 13 at Air Force.
