Defender John Parks Commits to Oberlin

Class of 2015 close defender John Parks has committed to NCAA D-III Oberlin College in Ohio, earning the honor despite attending a high school that doesn’t play lacrosse.

Parks, a solid 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds, will graduate this spring from Vistamar School in El Segundo, which doesn’t have a lacrosse team. He played non-CIF high school lacrosse with the West LA club under Larry Turkheimer.

Parks attributes most of his development and recruitment to his participation in year-round club programs. Nationally, he has played with Brady’s Bunch for a number of years. Locally, he has played with Adrenaline/Starz clubs such as LA Lazers, Factory and Goon. He also played box lacrosse with the Leverage club.

Oberlin competes in the North Coast Athletic Conference against teams like Denison, Kenyon and Ohio Wesleyan. Oberlin doesn’t currently list any Southern California players on its roster, but Kenyon recently received a commitment from Harvard Westlake middie Joe Woody in the Class of 2015. Former Agoura middie Grant Feitshans (2014) is preparing for his first season at Denison, and former Oaks Christian attack Dominic Santor (2014) is playing at Ohio Wesleyan.
