The Mira Costa boys lacrosse team and the Westlake girls lacrosse team were announced Sunday as No. 1 seeds in the 2017 US Lacrosse Postseason Invitational tournament.
Mira Costa, which finished second in the Bay League and No. 14 in the US Lacrosse/MaxLaxLA coaches poll, was not selected for the championship bracket due to a head-to-head loss to West Ranch. Instead, the Mustangs were invited to be the No. 1 seed in a new tournament sponsored by the US Lacrosse chapter.
Mira Costa will play host to No. 8-seed Calabasas on Wednesday (7:30 p.m.).
Here are Wednesday’s first-round matchups for the boys Invitational:
No. 8 Calabasas (6-13) at No. 1 Mira Costa (11-6), 7:30 p.m.
No. 5 St. John Bosco (7-7) at No. 4 Valencia (7-8), 7 p.m.
No. 6 Redondo Union (6-10) at No. 3 Culver City (7-9), TBD
No. 7 Glendale (9-6) at No. 2 San Marcos-SB (12-2), 4 p.m.
Westlake, which was ranked No. 15 in the final US Lacrosse/MaxLaxLA coaches poll this weekend, nevertheless was left out of the championship playoff field. Instead, the Warriors were invited to be the No. 1 seed and give a first-round bye in the invitational tournament.
Last season, the girls coaches committee termed this event “Division II,” but this year it has been formalized as the Invitational.
Here are the seedings and pairings for the first round of the girls Invitational:
No. 1 Westlake (6-9), bye.
No. 5 Chadwick (5-5) at No. 4 Culver City (11-5), TBD
No. 6 Westridge (4-6) at No. 3 Marlborough (9-4), TBD
No. 7 Hamilton (3-9) at No. 2 Peninsula (9-7), TBD
