The Corona del Mar boys lacrosse team returned home from a spring break trip to the Bay Area with three victories. Much of the credit goes to the team defense that pitched one shutout while giving up just five goals per game in the other two victories.
Sachin Gokhale (5 goals, 2 assists) carried the offensive load in the 9-6 win over Sacred Heart Prep. Eric Fries (1g), Will Favreau (1g), and Bobby Purcifull (1g, 1a, 4 groundballs) also tallied against Sacred Heart. Defenseman Brennan Greenwald picked up six groundballs. Kely Cord had eight saves and Nick Puglia won 12 of 18 faceoffs.
CdM cruised to a 15-0 victory over Los Gatos in the second game of the trip. Gokhale (2g, 3a) and Fries (3g, 2a) led the offense with five points apiece. Kyle Young (3g) also had a hat trick. John Bethel (2g), Matt Keasey (2g), Favreau (1g, 1a), Conner Dean (1g), Cameron Kayl (1g), Greenwald (1a), and Connell MacLean (1a) rounded out the scoring. Cord and freshman Bobby Gavin combined for four saves.
Gokhale made it a 10-goal trip with a hat trick in the 5-4 victory over Bellarmine. Jordan Pakzad(1g) was a force on both ends of the field. Pakzad led a defensive effort that held Bellarmine to just 10 shots on goal. Favreau scored the other CdM goal.
Next up. A top five matchup as CdM (11-2) hosts St. Margaret’s on Wednesday.
