Coaching Development Clinic Set for January 29 in Torrance

The following announcement was distributed via email by Tom Messmer of US Lacrosse.

US Lacrosse Coach Development Program will be holding a Level One training to include Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) in Torrance, CA on January 29th.(http://www.uslacrosse.org/coaches/coaching-education-program/instructional-clinics/level-1-clinics).

These clinics come to Southern California only once a year.  Last season we trained over 80 women’s game coaches at the clinic in Bellflower sponsored by the LA Chapter of US Lacrosse.

The most encouraging comments after these clinics come from former players, who recognize that even playing at the highest level does not provide specific training to be the most effective coach.   We also get great feedback from the crowd who has been “drafted” to their first season of lacrosse after coaching other sports.  These clinics do not help you become a better player, they help you develop your ability to efficiently impart lacrosse skills to your players.  In the past, we’ve seen new Orange County coaches travel to Las Vegas, Oakland and Seattle for these clinics, so we are incredibly fortunate that these are now scheduled so close to home.

We hope that many of you will consider attending, and will pass along to your new coaches, JV coaches and even parents who might be able to help you more than they can today.

The Level 1 Clinic brings the Level 1 online course to life through hands-on training facilitated by US Lacrosse-certified trainers. The curriculum is designed to introduce coaches to the responsibilities and philosophies of coaching and how to provide a safe and athlete-centered environment that emphasizes positive growth and sportsmanship. You’ll acquire the tools to teach rules, basic individual skills and basic team concepts to beginning players of all ages. This baseline training is relevant for all lacrosse coaches, regardless of experience.

Coaches must complete a Level 1 clinic to attain Level 1 certification. List price for clinics is $75 in advance or $90 within 10 days of a clinic. Please check with your local chapter or league for any discounts or subsidies prior to registering.
