Uganda Announces Coaching Staff
KAMPALA – Uganda Lacrosse Foundation (ULF), the US-based non-profit spearheading international play for the sport in the East African country, is proud to announce the coaches for the 2018 FIL Men’s Lacrosse World Championships in Netanya, Israel.
Pete Ginnegar, a coach with 34 years of lacrosse coaching experience at every level of collegiate lacrosse, will be the head coach of Uganda and will be aided by an outstanding assistant coaching staff including Division I All-American Jonathon Christmas, former Division III All-American Francis Donald, former NCAA Division I assistant and current UC Santa Barbara coach Mike Allan as well as long-time goalie guru Ivan Cohen.
“When it comes to coaching, Uganda will have some of the best teachers that our game has to offer,” said Matt Holman, ULF general manager. “From Coach Ginnegar all the way down our assistant coaching staff, we have a loaded group of volunteers ready to lead the Cranes to the World games.”
Ginnegar is the current head coach at Claremont (Calif.) College, a member of the MCLA Division I, where he has posted a 94-77 mark. Prior to that, he has had stints at Ohio State, Cornell, Mercyhurst, Springfield and Mary Washington among other stops. Ginnegar also has international experience as the assistant for the Israeli World team.
Christmas, a two-time All-American attackman and NCAA champion at Virginia, leads a strong staff. Currently the head coach at De La Salle (Calif.) High School, Christmas has extensive club experience that includes coaching 200 future prep All-Americans. Donald was an All-American long-stick midfielder at Nazareth, where he went on to be an assistant coach for six years. He is currently a coach at The Bishop’s School in La Jolla, Calif.
Allan, who has won a pair of the MCLA Division I National Championships at UC Santa Barbara and has been the offensive coordinator for Towson, brings his keen offensive mind to the Cranes. Cohen has worked with goalies at all levels, including the international stage, and is considered one of the top teachers in the game.
With the high expectations in place with its outstanding coaching staff, the Uganda Lacrosse Federation is looking for assistance in making the 2018 FIL Men’s Lacrosse World Championships a reality.
