Corona del Mar High School senior middie Chad Redfearn is the MaxLaxOC.com boys’ lacrosse Player of the Week. The Sea Kings shutout St. Viator (IL) on Tuesday and then shut down Torrey Pines on their home turf on Friday night. Going back through the LaxPower.com records St. Viator has not been shutout since at least 2009. Holding Torrey Pines to less than five goals and one out of six in man-up situations is nearly as rare. Teams don’t earn those defensive accomplishments without a top notch defensive midfielder, and Redfearn is one of the best. The fleet-footed dual-sport athlete (he’s a defensive back in the fall) uses his speed and quickness to cover and shut down opponents without the benefit of a six-foot long pole.
Typical for the position, Redfearn doesn’t pile up gaudy stats or get the credit he deserves in the media. He just goes out and gets ‘er done. CdM defensive coordinator Devin Arkison certainly appreciates Redfearn’s abilities and work ethic “Chad is a player that brings energy and intensity to our defense. He’s a an excellent cover guy, strong on ground balls and brings it it transition. Unselfish team player.”
