Senior Trio Powers Sea Kings Past Tesoro

Stephen Von Der Ahe (7g, 1a) and Jordan Greeenhall (5g, 3a) combined for 12 goals to lead Corona del to a 17-6 win over Tesoro on Tuesday. Ensuring that they had the ball enough times to score all those goals was Jason Simaan who continued his season long domination at the faceoff X. Simaan won 15 of 18 faceoffs (83%).

The Titans started off strong with Braden King (2g) putting the first goal in off an assist from Jason Moreta (1g,3a). The advantage didn’t last long though as the Sea Kings came right back when King’s Sachin Gokhale (1a) fed Von Der Ahe (7g,1a) on a man up to tie things up. It was then literally a give a take for the remainder of the first quarter with Greenhall (5g,3a) assisting Von Der Ahe’s second, and Tesoro firing back with Cole Spooner (1g,2a) feeding Brian Graves (1g). Von Der Ahe then takes an unassisted third goal while Spooner takes one of his own off an assist from younger brother Carson Spooner (1g,1a). The Sea Kings could not let the quarter end in a tie so Ryan Meckler (2g,1a) added one more for the kings to end the first quarter 4 to 3.

Second quarter started as a repeat of the first quarter with a second Moreta to King combo,  but after that, it was all Corona Del Mar.  Greenhall added  three more, two of them unassisted and one assisted by Meckler. Von Der Ahe collected two more unassisted goals of his own, as well as an assist to Will Favreau (1g). Combine that with a face off win and unassisted goal by Simaan (1g) and the King’s build the gap to 11-4 to end the half.

Third quarter was a bit quieter as the stout Tesoro defense and goal keeping by Tesoro stood up to the relentless pressure of the CdM possession advantage, but the Sea Kings still managed to put three more on the board.   Greenhall fed Von Der Ahe, and then the senior duo each scored unassisted goals to make it 14-4 after three quarters.

Greenhall started the fourth quarter with another unassisted goal, in addition to a feed to Eric Fries. Meckler added one more to his count while Tesoro fought the clock to make up ground with a goal from Moreta off a feed from Cole Spooner and one from Carson Spooner off a feed from Moreta, but it was just not enough. CdM had the 17-6 victory when the clock ran out.
