The Corona Del Mar High School Sea Kings closed out the regular season with big wins over Marina High School and Mater Dei High School.
The Sea Kings jumped out to a 6-0 first quarter lead against Marina on Tuesday afternoon and just kept on trucking en route to an 18-3 win. Senior Casey Mix led the Sea Kings with 5 goals and an assist. Senior Chris Von Der Ahe (3 goals, 2 assists), sophomore Ben Palitz (3 goals, 1 assist), sophomore Max Kline (2 goals, 1 assist), senior Todd Kitzens (2 goals, 2 assists), sophomore Brett Greenlee (1 goal), sophomore Nino Chavez (1 goal), and sophomore Hugh Crance (1 goal) also scored for the Sea Kings. Senior Beau Golding celebrated his next to last regular season game with an assist. Sophomore Sherwin Gersten also had an assist. Sophomore Hoyt Crance and freshman Nick Guisen teamed up for six saves. Seniors Jack Harris and Brett Nelson recovered 4 groundballs and 3 groundballs, respectively.
Josh Ane (1 goal) and John Miller (2 goals) provided the Marina scoring. Geoff Halverson had 7 saves.
In a near duplicate of Tuesday’s game, CDM (15-2) closed out the regular season at home with a 17-4 victory over Mater Dei on Friday. In this game, CDM jumped out to a 5-0 first quarter lead and just kept on scoring. The Sea Kings led 10-0 at halftime and 15-2 at the end of the third quarter. Seniors Brett Nelson and Casey Mix led the offense with 3 goals and one assist each. Senior Chris Von Der Ahe (2 goals, 1 assist), sophomore Max Kline (2 goals, 3 assists), sophomore Sherwin Gersten (2 goals), sophomore Ben Palitz (1 goal, 2 assists, and sophomore Logan Miller (1 goal, 1 assist) all had multiple points. Junior Jay Damon, sophomore Noah Howe, and senior Todd Kitzens notched one goal apiece. Sophomore Hoyt Crance had 8 saves junior Daniel McCabe scooped up 3 groundballs.
