CdM wins the Battle of the Bay

Corona del Mar defeated Newport Harbor 20-3 in the annual renewal of the Battle of the Bay.  Jordan Greenhall and Reigning Epoch West Player of the Week Stephen Von Der Ahe paced the Sea Kings with eight points and six points, respectively. Von Der Ahe scored six goals and Greenhall finished the game with four goals, four assists, and two groundballs.

Eric Fries (4g, 1gb) and Sachin Gokhale (2g, 3a) also had productive games. Will Favreau (1g), Nate Neumann (1g, 3gb), Jake Elisius (1g), Nick Puglia (1g, 1gb), Kyle Young (3a), and Will Cord (1a, 1gb) completed the CdM scoring.

In a pattern that has become familiar to CdM’s opponents the faceoff team of Jason Simaan (Brown), Matt Saucedo, and Puglia allowed the Sea Kings to control the pace of the game by winning a combined 18/23 faceoffs.  Simaan was 10/11 (91%), Saucedo was 4/6 (67%), and Puglia was 4/5 (80%).

Jordan Pakzad (St. Joseph’s) led the defense with three gbs and two clears.  Nick Guizan made five saves in a relatively quiet night between the pipes.

Next up: CdM (5-0) plays St. Margaret’s (6-2) on Tuesday in a game that will influence the regional rankings.  The Sailors (2-6) play Beckman on Wednesday.
