Corona del Mar topped Newport Harbor 17-3 on Friday to retain bragging rights in the annual Battle of the Bay.  Eric Fries and Kenan Resler paced the Sea Kings with a pair of hat tricks.

Kyle Cord (8 saves) and his defense continued the downward trajectory of the team’s goals against average, which is now under five goals per game.  The close defense trio of Landon Whitney, Jordan Pakzad, and Brennan Greenwald combined for nine groundballs.

As usual, a large number of Sea Kings participated in the goal scoring.  Kyle Young (1g, 1a), Grant Spruce (1g), Will Favreau (2g, 1a), Bobby Purcifull (1g, 1a), Jake Elsius (1g), Ryan Meckler (2g, 2a), Nick Puglia (1a), Cameron Kayl (1g), John Bethel (2g) rounded out the CdM scoring.

Next up: CdM (5-0) hosts Servite on Tuesday and travels to Torrey Pines on Saturday to take on the top-ranked team in the West.  Newport Harbor (0-1; 2-6) plays Sunset League rivals Edison (0-0; 4-3) on Tuesday and Huntington Beach (1-0; 4-3) on Friday.
