SANTA MARGARITA- Quentin Buchman surpassed the 200 point mark for his high school career as the No. 5 Santa Margarita Eagles (3-0, 9-3) trampled state-ranked Granite Bay (5-0, 9-3) 15-2 in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday. The red-hot Eagles extended their win streak to five games, while the Grizzlies had their eight game win streak snapped in the loss.
Jack Fisher started the Eagles off in the first quarter, but after a Buchman score Granite Bay came to within one, down 2-1 after the first frame. After a 3-2 start of the second quarter, the Eagles found their game and outscored the Grizzlies 12-0 to win the game 15-2.
Buchman led the offensive attack for Santa Margarita with eight points (6G, 2A). Michael Walsh (1G, 3A), Fisher (2G, 1A), Jack Allender (1G, 2A), Nicholas Parrino (2G), Tyler Wrightson (2G) and Ryan You (1G) rounded out the scoring tally for the Eagles. Chase Lynch won 17 of 21 faceoffs and Robert Colley led the team defensively with six ground balls.
“Our best game of the year so far,” said Santa Margarita head coach Adam Guy via email.
The Eagles will resume play April 19 as they begin a three-game road trip, leading off against Coronado (8-3).
