Three junior midfields shared girls lacrosse Player of the Week Honors. Ava Brand (Foothill), Gianna Danese (Mater Dei), and Delaney Knipp (Newport Harbor) all impressed opposing coaches enough with their outstanding performances to earn the POTW recognition.
“Groundball Gia” is a team captain who is well respected for work ethic and her well-rounded game. She is amongst the team leaders in scoring (19 goals), groundballs (28), and caused turnovers (16) through Mater Dei’s game against Holy Cross (NY).
Brand, the third leading scorer on the the Knights, came through with four important goals and four groundballs to help Foothill fight off Newport Harbor 12-8.
Knipp, a defensive specialist, is among the team leaders in takeaways (10) and groundballs (29). She played a big part in keeping Foothill to their second lowest scoring game of the season.
