Brady’s Bunch 2016 Wins in Boston

BradyBunchOrange County talent was showcased on the East Coast this past week with Brady’s Bunch 8th grade and 2016 High School A team both going into the finals undefeated and claiming Championships at the Legacy Lacrosse Invitational in Boston. In the High School A Division, the 2016 finals consisted of No.1 seeded Brady’s Bunch meeting the undefeated West Coast Starz Northwest team. The 2016 Bunch team included six players from Orange County and was coached by JSerra High School’s Tom DeMaio as well as Chris DeMaio, and Shane O’Niel. The 2016 Bunch team only let up seven goals total throughout the tournament, beating teams from New York, Maine, and two from Massachusetts. Playing the game in the name of a teammate who had been traveling with the team all week and was now in a Boston hospital, an emotional Bunch team took the lead early in the first quarter and never let up. Four of the seven total goals were scored by Orange County players: Harrison Evans (1g1a) and Nicholas DeMaio (1g1a) Jack Southron (2g). The game featured physical play on both sides and some really aggressive defense by the Bunch squad who seemed to win every ground ball. Orange County goalie, Payton Fales held the Starz scoreless in the final three quarters. Final score, 7-2. Also representing the OC were Harrison Evans, Riley McQuaid, and Preston Alvarez.

Brady’s Bunch Founder Mike “Papi” Wein observed, “We often talk to the kids about never knowing when their last shift will be, and in this case and game, they had a teammate who needed to be picked up, and that’s what they did. It was crazy how hard they worked.”

Earlier in the weekend the No.1 seeded 8th grade Bunch team, laden with Orange County talent won the Legacy A Division over Cape Cod in commanding fashion, 7-4. The Brady’s Bunch win comes off a very strong run this summer for the organization which has now won Vail, Legacy, and went undefeated in the U15 US Lacrosse Regional qualifiers in San Jose last week.

Next up, Brady’s Bunch will compete in the FLG in 3D Summer Shootout event in Bel Air, Maryland July 19-21 and the U15 US Lacrosse National Championship in July 26 – 28 at ESPN Wide World of Sports at Disney World, Fla. OC boys will be on rosters for both.
