Boys Lacrosse Preview: Santa Margarita

Santa Margarita boys lacrosse will look to repeat as the Trinity League champions and make another deep run in the CIF Southern Section playoffs in 2017. Last year, the Eagles finished the regular season ranked fourth in the Coaches Poll.

Coach: Adam Guy (fourth season)

2016 season: 15-6 overall, 7-0 in the Trinity League (first place); lost to Corona Del Mar 8-6 in the Orange County semifinals.

Schedule Highlights: March 3 vs. El Toro (season opener); March 9 vs. Tesoro; March 16 vs. Palos Verdes; March 21 at St. Margaret’s; March 25 at Temecula Great Oak; March 29 at Foothill; April 4 at Servite; April 8 vs. JSerra; April 25 vs. Mater Dei; April 29 vs. Servite (regular-season finale).

Players to Watch: Quentin Buchman (midfield, junior, 2016 Trinity League Player of the Year and first-team All-County); Matt Ury (defense, junior); Sean Mack (defense, senior); Chase Lynch (FOGO, senior); Jack Fisher (attack, senior); and Jack Allender (attack, sophomore).

Coach’s Outlook: “I am pretty excited about the team,” Guy said. “We are still relatively young, with a good amount of junior talent. The talent that we have has huge ceilings. As a whole, we have scoring threats all over the field, which is something we have struggled with in the past … the expectations have kind of been set here now.”
