Boys Games to Watch This Week

Tuesday

No. 10 Tesoro (1-5) at No.9 Aliso Niguel (4-2).   The South Coast League is the only league with four teams in the Top 10.  Each will play the other twice this season.  Tesoro and San Clemente have ruled the SCL in one of the fiercest rivalries in the county.  League  newcomers Aliso and Trabuco Hills are ready to  establish their own reputations.

No. 19 Servite at No. 13 Huntington Beach.   The Oilers will be looking for a win before starting their Sunset League schedule.  Servite can start to move towards the Top 16 and a playoff spot with a W.

No. 1 Foothill vs Scripps Ranch. The Knights (7-0) host Scripps Ranch, currently the No. 4 team in the San Diego Section. The Falcons’ only loss is a forfeit (reportedly due to an ineligible player) to Rancho Bernardo, and have defeated the always tough Coronado Islanders this year.   Falcons to watch include Brian DeJesus (Westminster) and Ardash Nodznaia (Limestone).

No. 3 JSerra vs Cathedral Catholic.  The JSerra Catholic High School Lions will (5-0) be looking to avenge last year’s 10-9 loss to the Dons. (3-1)   The Dons, who lost in the San Diego Section Championship game by one goal last year, are currently ranked No. 2 in San Diego according to laxpower.com.  Cathedral Catholic players to watch include Noah Assaraff (Maryland), Josh Wehn (Bellarmine), and Cole Wolfson (Bellarmine).

No. 4 St. Margaret’s at Poway. The Tartans (6-10) travel to Poway (4-1) for another inter-county Top 5 showdown. The Titans are currently ranked No. 3 in San Diego by LaxPower.com. Titans to watch include junior LSM Jake Fiske (UMass Lowell) and defenseman Mitchell Walters (Whittier).

Thursday

No. 6 Great Oak vs Alexander Dawson (CO). The Wolfpack (6-1) host the Mustangs (1-1), the No. 20 team in Colorado.   Mustangs to watch include senior attackman Michael Paquetta (Cornell College, IA).

No. 8 Trabuco Hills at No. 9 Aliso Niguel. Round 3 of this week’s SCL battles pits the two young upstarts against one another. Keep your twitter tuned to @Maxlaxinc.

Friday

No. 16 Yorba Linda at No. 18 Esperanza (Shapell Stadium). Most OC lacrosse followers don’t’ appreciate the intensity of the Yorba Linda-Esperanza rivalry. The Mustangs took the Empire-Century League bragging rights away from the Aztecs two years ago. The Aztecs want them back. Yorba Linda is currently occupying the final playoff seat. Esperanza could move into it with a win. This should be a good one.

No. 7 San Clemente vs. Poway. Tritons vs Titans is not only poetic, it usually means San Clemente vs. Tesoro. Not this time. Poway visits the OC. The Titans (4-1) are currently ranked No. 3 in San Diego by LaxPower.com. Titans to watch include junior LSM Jake Fiske (UMass Lowell) and defenseman Mitchell Walters (Whittier).

No. 5 Santa Margarita vs. Palos Verdes. The 5-1 Sea Kings, ranked No. 2 in L.A., fight Friday afternoon traffic to visit Santa Margarita (5-1). Sea Kings to watch include senior goalie David McCann (Duke), junior defenseman Jarrett Jones (Georgetown), and junior middie Peter Henkhaus (Marquette).
