2020 goalie, Bobby Gavin, a Laguna Beach native and current member of Torrey Pines lacrosse team has committed to play for defending national champions University of Virginia.
Devin Arkison of Lockdown Recruiting broke the news to MaxLax this week.
“I’d like to thank the Gavin family for their faith in me from day 1 and congratulate Bobby,” said Arkison by email.
Arkison said that he has been involved in Bobby’s recruiting process since his freshman year and noted that Gavin’s work ethic and ability to shine under pressure were instrumental in drawing the attention of the UVA coaches.
“His work ethic is second to none, and when it was time to perform he was lights out at several events!” Arkison said. “Bobby’s break out day was Sept 2018 at UVA prospect day, he was fantastic by several accounts. “I had been calling coach Tiffany on Bobby for 6 months or so before that, they had watched him at a few events, after that day coach contacted me and said Bobby stood out no doubt, he wanted to see more.”
Gavin continued to improve after the 2018 prospect day and one year later rumors started that UVA really like his game.
“We knew it was close, the next couple months was tough as far as a waiting game because along with his parents we knew it was down to the wire,” Arkison added. “Bobby continued to play exceptionally well at Goalie Smith and UVA made the offer this week. I have known Bobby since he was 9 years old, you will not find a harder worker or a nicer kid off the field, I’m just thrilled for the Gavin family!!, and Coach Tiffany at UVA is class all the way.”
