No. 19 Peninsula, hoping to make a late-season run at a playoff berth, played Orange County No. 8 Servite to a 4-4 halftime tie on Saturday, but the Friars erupted for five goals in the third period and went on to win 12-8.
The loss drops the Panthers to 3-8 on the season. Servite improved to 11-4.
Senior Scott Phillips led Peninsula with five goals and also grabbed a game-high nine ground balls. Max Cha, Ethan Burrage and Kyle Beachboard also scored goals. Matt Choi made nine saves in goal for the Panthers.
Peninsula has two regular-season games this week before next week’s Bay League tournament, starting with a Tuesday matchup against No. 14 Sierra Canyon. Friday, the Panthers are home against Redondo Union.
