Village Christian broke open a tight game with an overwhelming second-quarter burst en route to a 23-5 win over visiting Viewpoint on Friday.

The Crusaders outscored the Patriots 12-1 in the second quarter, turning a 4-3 lead into a 16-4 halftime advantage.

Sophomore Matthew Walz (pictured) won 17 of 21 face-offs and junior Kyler Konjoyan won both of his, giving Village a dominant edge in possession time, and sophomore goalie Jacob Zinder was credited with 10 saves.

Freshman Will Markel scored eight goals to lead the Crusaders, and Konjoyan scored six. Senior Griffen Rodas had a goal and seven assists, and sophomore Miles Chun (2g, 2a), sophomore Lance Garcia (2g), senior Harrison Woo (2g) and freshman Kalwin Iha (1g) also scored.

Village Christian improved to 3-2 with the win. Viewpoint fell to 2-3.
