Big Second Half Propels Lancers Past Peninsula

It took the No. 6-seeded Thousand Oaks Lancers a while to shake off the cobwebs from their long bus ride to Palos Verdes on Thursday. They trailed No. 3 Peninsula 4-1 after one quarter and 5-2 at halftime before erupting for five goals in the third period to take the lead and five more in the fourth to take command.

T.O. (14-4) ultimately led 12-8 with 2:49 to play and held off a furious Peninsula rally to win 12-11 and advance to Saturday’s semifinals. Because of No. 7 Crespi’s upset of No. 2 Loyola on Thursday, the Lancers will be host to the Celts in the semifinal game Saturday (7:30 p.m.). Peninsula finishes its season 16-3.

Zach Byington scored three goals to lead the Lancers, who got balanced offensive production, with Dillon Pentis, Zac Asbury and Roy Ward each contributing two goals and an assist. Will Dutton also scored twice.
