Bethel Sends No. 1 CDM past No. 4 St. Margarets

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO- John Bethel’s sombrero (4G) led No. 1 Corona Del Mar (12-2) to an impressive 12-4 road win over No. 4 St. Margarets (7-7). The Sea Kings, winners of four straight, strengthened their grip on the  No. 1 spot. Meanwhile, the Tartans had their three-game win streak snapped with the loss.

CDM put their foot on the gas early with an early 3-1 lead after the first quarter. They kept that momentum going in the second, taking a comfortable 7-2 lead into the half. After a 9-3 lead in the third, the Sea Kings closed the deal and won the game comfortably, 12-4.

Brethel led the way with four goals for the Sea Kings. Sachin Gokhale (3G, 1A) and Will Favreau (3G) each contributed hat tricks. Eric Fries (1G, 2A) and Bobby Purcifull (1G) got in the score column for CDM as well, and Kyle Cord had an impressive 10 saves in net. Jordan Pakzad led the team on defense with two caused turnovers and picked up two groundballs as well.

St. Margarets was led offensively by Koa Todd (2G) and Trevor Peay (2G). As a team, the Tartans have not been held to four goals or less in a game since their 9-1 loss to Foothill on March 1, which was their second game of the season.

Corona Del Mar plays Marina (0-6, 5-9) on Saturday. St. Margarets will hit the road Saturday and look to get on track when they take on No. 8 El Toro (4-1, 7-5).
