The Beckman boys’ lacrosse team closed in on its sixth consecutive Pacific Coast League title with a resounding 16-1 victory over Woodbridge on Wednesday. The Patriots are 5-0 in league play this season with three games left, and last lost to a Pacific Coast League opponent in April 2012.
Going into the game, both Beckman and Woodbridge were undefeated in league play. Beckman dominated on the dot with Max Cody winning 20 of 21 faceoffs. Once Cody got the team possession, the ball was evenly distributed with seven players finding the back of the net. Gavin Dankert (5 goals,1 assist), Zack Carter (2g,3a), Casey Finley (3g,1a), Cody (2g), Ethan Edwards (2g), Jason Cheng (1g,2a), and Jacob Sanders (1g,1a). Middies Spenser Thomson and Kenton Wilson each had an assist.
Beckman’s poles played solid defense throughout the game. Notre Dame commit, Justin Cheng, led the way with 3 groundballs and 4 caused turnovers. Josh Carter (4 GB, 2 CTO), Alex Gillman (2GB, 1 CTO), and John McCabe (2 GB).
Junior goalie, Cayden Seeber, had 7 saves.
Coach Matt Cannone said “Great team win today. Our defense really clamped down only allowing one goal. Josh Carter really stepped up with a big game as did Max Cody nearly winning every face off. Great to take the number one spot in the PCL”.
Next up for Beckman, a non-league game at El Toro on 4/19.
