Agoura alum Jonah Swigart was among 16 newcomers, including 13 freshman, welcomed to the Syracuse University lacrosse program Friday by head coach John Desko.
“I’m extremely happy with the progress of the freshmen and transfers,” Desko said in a news release. “Almost all are currently fighting for playing time at their positions. The group is very athletic with a high lacrosse IQ. I’m very pleased with progress we’ve seen so far from them.”

Syracuse’s incoming freshman class ranks eighth in Inside Lacrosse’s list of the top-20 recruiting classes in the nation and also features eight student-athletes in the magazine’s Power-100.
Here’s what the Syracuse news release said about Swigart:
Jonah Swigart, Long-Stick Midfield
Westlake Village, CA (Agoura HS)
Two-time All-American and team MVP at Agoura High School … Recorded seven goals, seven assists, and 47 ground balls as senior … Selected for Maverik Showtime during senior season … Earned Marmonte All-League honors three times.
Swigart is the only Californian in the incoming class, and he joins redshirt freshman middie Spencer Schmitt of Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) as the only Californians on the Orange’s 2016 roster. Torrey Pines (San Diego) middie Spencer Small is committed to the Orange in the Class of 2016, and Loyola middie Jonathan Partamian is committed to Syracuse in the 2017 class.
