The Agoura Chargers girls lacrosse team has won five games in a row, all of them over teams ranked in the US Lacrosse/MaxLaxLA Top 20, and was rewarded by voters in this week’s coaches poll, earning one first-place vote and climbing from No. 8 to No. 5.
Agoura lost star attacker Lauren Harrison to a knee injury in a loss to Glendale on March 13. The Chargers lost their next game at Redondo Union but since have beaten Newbury Park, Oaks Christian, Palos Verdes, Thousand Oaks and Westlake. Agoura has allowed only 7.4 goals per game during its winning streak.
While the Chargers’ climb in the rankings was the largest, it was far from the only movement. Oak Park received one first-place vote and moved up one spot to No. 2. The Eagles still are behind No. 1 Chaminade, which received 10 of 13 first-place votes, but now are ahead of No. 3 Redondo Union, which slipped one spot for the second week in a row following a loss to Palos Verdes. A week earlier, the Sea Hawks had slipped out of the No. 1 spot after losing to Chaminade.
Cate School remained undefeated at 6-0 and received one first-place vote in the poll, helping the Rams move up one spot in the rankings to No. 6. Glendale moved up two spots to No. 9; Palisades moved up one spot to No. 11; Peninsula moved up one to No. 13; and Culver City moved up two to No. 18.
