Four months after the 2015 high school lacrosse season wrapped up, preparation for the 2016 season is under way. A dozen local programs open play Sunday in the 10-week LA Mavericks fall ball league at Agoura HS, including eight teams that reached the playoffs last spring and three that reached the L.A. semifinals.
Of course, that was then, and a whole bunch of seniors graduated in June, making fall ball the first chance coaches have had to start shaping their rosters for next spring.
This season, the fall league features offseason teams representing Agoura, Crespi, Loyola, Newbury Park, Oak Park, Oaks Christian, Royal, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Valencia, Westlake and West Ranch. Eight of those clubs also have JV teams entered. LA Mavs director and Agoura head coach Sean Lindsay started the league six years ago with only three teams.
The program runs each Sunday through Nov. 15 and features 60-minute, full-field scrimmages with U.S. Lacrosse certified officials. All games are played at Agoura HS, with most on the stadium field.
