Woodbridge defeated Pacific Coast League rival Irvine 5-4 in a dramatic double overtime game on Wednesday.
The Warriors were down 4-2 in the third quarter when their defense, led by Jake Henderson, Brad Wash and goalie James Nakano, pulled down the curtain on the Irvine offense and shut out the Vaqueros for the remainder of the game.
The Irvine offense was only slightly less formidable, giving up only one Carson Albin (2g) goal until there were just three ticks left on the clock. That’s when Matthew Chung made his only goal of the game really count by tying the game to force overtime. It took two sessions of free lacrosse before Parker Haw (1g) scored the goal that won the game for the Warriors. Zac Jacobs (1g) and Brent Buckland (1a) also tallied points for the Warriors.
Next up: Woodbridge (4-2, 5-6) plays Sage Hill (0-5, 2-8) on Monday and Irvine (1-5, 4-7) plays Northwood (5-1, 12-2) on Monday.
