2018 Kings Win Again

Another tournament in the books and another championship run for the 2018 OC Kings. This time it was the prestigious Adrenaline Challenge in Del Mar.   With relentless team defense and big time play-makers on offense this Kings team looks like a force to be reckoned with for the next four years.

For the second straight tournament, the 2018 Kings ran the tables and went undefeated.  Ryan Brent who wins Southwestern Lacrosse Conference titles as head coach of  Concordia University when he isn’t coaching the 2018s was thoroughly impressed with the talent and teamwork of this freshman squad.  “I’m really proud of those boys and they should feel really good about themselves,” said Brent.  ” Going 12-0 with back to back tournament championships in Vegas and Del Mar is a huge accomplishment.”

Once again the Kings were led offensively by standout freshman Ellis Geis (Foothill High School) who seemed to be able to score at will.  With the help of fellow attackman Jason Moreta (Tesoro High School) and midfielder Nick Parrino (Santa Margarita Catholic High School) the offense  put up big numbers over the weekend.  A key factor in the Kings’ ability to dominate time of possession throughout the tournament was the stellar play of FOS Miles Smart (Foothill). Smart’s ability to control the faceoff X allowed the Kings to continue rolling once the offense got hot, and killed any momentum the opposition hoped to build after scoring.  Defensively the Kings were led by goalie Jordan Wanger (Capistrano Valley High School) and defensemen Mark Joy (Foothill) and Matthew Ury (Santa Margarita).   All in all it was a solid team effort throughout the weekend that got to the Kings to the championship game, but this young squad definitely saved their best for last.  With an outstanding performance from Wanger, Smart dominating on faceoffs, and Geis having his best game of the tournament the Kings were able to cruise to a 12-5 victory over the Burnaby Mountain Select 2017 (British Columbia) squad.  Congrats once again to the 2018 OC Kings on another impressive  showing, and keep up the good work boys!
